Enlightenment Now
A print edition of IBB’s Arabic translation of Enlightenment Now was on display at a book tent in the Iraqi city of Kufa during the 2018 protests against government corruption. The tent was burned to the ground. The responsible militia called out the display of “secular books” as their rationale. This is an excellent example of censorship’s many forms. Books may be effectively “banned” through threats, intimidation, and outright violence, rather than the censor’s pen alone.
