The Lord of the Rings

Author
J. R. R. Tolkien
Banned In
School in the United States, Soviet Union

Tolkien considered charges that his books contained satanic allegories to be absurd. Yet there are still periodic attempts to ban them (now seemingly timed with periodic re-releases of Peter Jackson’s films) by some Christian churches and schools in the US and in other countries. During the Soviet era, the trilogy was seen as analogizing Sauron and Stalin.
